Summers warmer weather can bring severe storms to the area. With these stronger storms can come damages to your home. Fortunately, there are ways you can help to prevent damages. Disaster Cleanup Services has info to help keep your home safe during severe weather, but if you do experience storm damages, we are just a phone call away!

Check Your Gutters and Roof Regularly

While it should be common knowledge to check your gutters and roof regularly, most do not. A clogged gutter can cause water to back up and enter your home through the roof, attic, and sides. This can cause structural and water damages. Missing shingles or broken roofing can weaken the infrastructure, making it susceptible to wind, rain, and hail damages.

Check Trees

You should check your trees regularly for dead branches. It is also essential to keep trees pruned. Excess branches and limbs can fall from your tree during severe weather. If the trees are close to your home, it can cause significant roof damages. If you are unsure if your trees are safe, contact a professional to assess the trees on your property.

Clean Your Property

Loose items around your home can easily be picked up by strong winds and thrown into your home. This can damage windows, siding, and even your roof. If you know severe weather is likely, secure loose items like umbrellas and chairs. This could save you from having significant storm damages.

Ensure Your Basement and Attic are Properly Maintained

Attics and basements are two of the most overlooked places when it comes to maintenance. Most people only go to these areas when they need something. Leaks and flooding can happen quickly and if not found, can cause mold growth, major water damages, and structural problems.

Check Siding and Windows

Cracks in your windows can completely break if hit by hail or strong wind. If you have damages to your windows, have them repaired. You never want to have a broken window during a storm. Water can quickly enter your home. Damaged siding may not seem like a major deal, but it can allow water to flow into your home’s foundation. This can lead to mold and water damages.
