Winter weather is usually exciting for many people. It means skiing, vacation homes, and holidays with family and friends! It is a fun time, but your fun can quickly diminish if you have not adequately winterized your home for the colder weather.

Check Your Roof

We know you are probably tired of hearing people telling you to check your roof, but it is excellent advice. Your roof is what protects you from the snow, ice, and rain. It keeps you nice and warm. If there are any damages to your roof or gutters, you will need to have them repaired before the winter weather hits. If you wait, there is a huge possibility that you will have water damages or structural problems before Winter ends.

Check For Exposed Pipes

While this should be a no-brainer, we see a lot of people that leave outside pipes exposed to the winter elements. If you have any outdoor pipes, simply buy some insulation and protect them. This could save you a lot of money and the headache of having frozen or burst pipes.

Insulate Your Windows and Doors

Cold air can enter your home through doors and windows. If you want your Winter to be warm and cozy, check to ensure there are no drafts. Checking that everything is sealed will keep your electric bill down and ensure your home is warm this Winter.

Check the Basement and Attic

It is a good idea always to check your basement and attic at least once a month. These are areas that are not generally checked often, which could pose a problem. Water damages are one of the main home disasters we see in basements and attics. Check for any leaks or holes and repair them!

Remove Water Hoses From Spigots

Leaving your water hose attached during the Winter is a huge no-no. You should also protect your spigots by insulating them. Leaving your water hose attached can cause water to become trapped. This pressure will result in a broken pipe that you may not find for a few weeks. This could lead to significant water damages.
