Everyone should have an emergency plan in place in case something were to happen. During the early years of school teachers even teach this. As one gets older they do not really think about it. You think it isn’t going to happen to you. What if it does? What if your house catches fire? Floods? Earthquake? What if a tornado rips through your neighborhood? What would your plan be to ensure everyone is safe and you have enough emergency goods to last you? Colorado Disaster Cleanup Services wants our Denver residents to be prepared if the inevitable happens.

  • The first thing you should do is come up with a plan for certain disasters. If a fire hits where should you go? Where do you meet? Do you have a bag to take with you? Do you have labels on your windows indicating that you have children, elderly, or pets inside that may not be able to escape quickly and may need assistance?
  • Secondly, Prepare a bag for disasters, this bag may include emergency phone numbers, clothes, food, water, a first aid kit as well as gas masks. This may sound extreme, but it is best to always be prepared. These bags could have anything you may find important in them to your survival. A bag per person may be a great idea and they should always be kept in an easy to reach place. This way you can grab them and go. It may also be smart to equip all rooms upstairs with a roll down ladder in case of a fire or if one needs to escape from the top floors.
  • Thirdly, once you have a plan, it is important to discuss it with everyone in the family. Your entire family should participate and feel comfortable with the plan and an open discussion should be held to answer any questions that could arise.
  • Fourthly, it is very important to have practice drill for different emergencies. If you are the one in change of the drills, make sure to do them at different times of the day and night and that no one knows they are going to happen. This will show you what needs to be worked on. These drills could be the difference in life or death down the road.

This is a basic disaster plan and can be elaborated to fit your individual needs. For the safety of you and your family Colorado Disaster Cleanup Services will help by answering any questions you may have about a disaster plan. You can also call your local fire, police, or Red Cross department for other suggestions.
