Hazardous Materials Info

Asbestos is one of the most dangerous fibers that can be found naturally. Asbestos-containing materials have been in construction materials for years. Only recently have these materials begun to decline completely. There are several areas in your home that could contain this dangerous fiber. The building supplies that contain this material are actually safe until it is disturbed or when it begins to wear and break down. Once this happens, the fibers can be released into the air, exposing you and your family.

  • Insulation

Insulation was one of the main places these fibers would lie and potentially spread out through the property. Asbestos is known for being heat resistant and extremely durable. It was also cheap. Asbestos was a miracle fiber. This made it the perfect insulator for homes.

  • Tile

The tiles inside your home may contain asbestos fibers. The fact that asbestos is so strong and affordable made it the perfect material for tiles. Your flooring has constant traffic and asbestos allowed it to hold up for longer periods.

  • Roofing

Shingles on your roof and even siding were known to contain asbestos. Asbestos can stand up to the heat of the sun and is strong enough to withstand the elements.

  • Wallpaper

Adhesives used on wallpaper and caulking have been known to contain asbestos, as it is the perfect bonding agent and can stand up to the heat. Never remove wallpaper without having your home checked for asbestos.

  • Popcorn Ceiling/ Textures

Painted wall textures and popcorn ceilings were a huge trend in the 80s and 90s. If your home has this, it most likely contains asbestos. You should never try to remove popcorn ceilings or texture from your walls.

The best way to handle asbestos is through professional asbestos removal. Disaster Cleanup Services has the proper equipment and gear to remove the asbestos from your home. Don’t risk it, call a professional before doing a remodel.
